How You Can Make Seeing in the Spirit Practical and Personable

(Charisma Media archives)

Do you want to see in the Spirit?

Jeremiah 1:11-12 says, "Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 'Jeremiah, what do you see?' And I said, 'I see a branch of an almond tree.' Then the Lord said to me, 'You have seen well. For I will hasten My word to perform it.'" Then, God asks Jeremiah again what he sees in a vision and Jeremiah responds.

I personally think there was a period of time between verses 12 and 13 where Jeremiah was in prophetic training with the Lord. He was faithful to obey and see what the Lord was giving him, and was given the brief interpretation in verses 11-12. But then in verses 13-14, the Lord launches the prophet into a national prophetic ministry. Jeremiah was seeing in the Spirit and then proclaimed the Word of the Lord.

The books of 1 and 2 Samuel use the Hebrew words for"seer" in 1 Samuel 9:11 and 2 Samuel 24:11. Then the word is used in 1 Chronicles 9:29. Samuel was born sometime before 1070 B.C., and Jeremiah was born around 650 B.C. But after Jeremiah, the word "seer" was no longer used for prophets, even though a number of the prophets saw visions and revelations.

There have been books, seminars and articles trying to make a clear distinction between "seers" and "prophets." But "seer" was a descriptive word used for a certain period of time that did not separate seers from prophets. It was simply describing differences in the prophet's primary way of receiving revelation from God. The word "seer" fell out of use after the 420-year period between Samuel and Jeremiah's birth.

Some people try to use the word in our present day to differentiate "seers" from a prophet or prophetic ministry. But the term "seer" is not in the New Testament. Under the New Covenant, there are a myriad of ways God speaks prophetically to people. Some people may see, like Peter and John. Others may hear, feel, sense, dream or receive revelation another way. Each way God speaks is special, incredible and amazing. But the way God speaks to one person does not make a person better than the other. It's just the best way God knows a person needs to receive communication and revelation from Him. But seeing is actually easier than most of us think.

Louise Lopez, who is a graduate of Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry, was a recent guest on my podcast, Adventures in the Spirit With Jared Laskey. God communicates to her through seeing visions and revelation. She also led my viewers and listeners in an activation to see in the Spirit, making it practical and personable.

Since then, my kids have used the steps she gave while I put them to bed, and they have seen angels. And you can too.

Jared Laskey, M.Div., M.A. Christian Ministry, is the founder of Fireborn Ministries and host of the Adventures in the Spirit podcast. He lives to see Jesus awaken this generation to the power of the Holy Spirit. Jared loves teaching people how to hear God. He has recently published the Spirit-Empowered Journal, available on Amazon, and e-course, Entry Level Prophecy. His testimony of how God supernaturally healed him of PTSD is in Joan Hunter's new book, Miracles for Veterans.
