Former US Soldier Vows to Rescue Christians in Escaping Horror of Taliban

A great deal of the news media has reported that there aren’t any American soldiers left in Afghanistan following America’s withdrawal from that country more than two months ago.

While officially that may be true, there is a former U.S. soldier remaining, and he told Fox News that he will remain in country for “as long as it takes” to rescue anyone at-risk to the perils of the Taliban, the terrorist group that has taken control of Afghanistan.

The former soldier, who spoke to Fox News in anonymity, says he has brought at least 30 at-risk people across the Afghan border into Pakistan, including Christians.

“They say on the news there is no U.S. solder in Afghanistan,” the former staff sergeant said. “But I’m here, and I’ll help as long as it takes. I’m a proud American soldier. I’ve taken an oath and I’ll never forget that oath.”

The Afghanistan war veteran went to Pakistan approximately a month ago. He illegally crossed into Afghanistan to rescue his family, who hid around Kablul after the Taliban takeover and feared they would be killed for their connection with the U.S. army staff sergeant.

Since returning to Afghanistan, the former soldier says he’s rescued Catholics and other Christians—as well as Hazara minorities—all of whom have become Taliban targets.

“It feels good getting them out, saving them from the Taliban,” he told Fox News.

He’s helped Afghan Christians to escape, including a couple that recently converted to Catholicism who was “in danger because of their religion.” When people in their neighborhood discovered their new religion, they began to snitch to the Taliban, the solder said.

The soldier’s efforts haven’t gone unpunished by the Taliban. He was captured and lashed, but he said it could have been “far worse.”

The Taliban visited one of his family’s safe houses, and the family was forced to flee through a back door. The U.S. government has offered him no help whatsoever.

“I had no choice by to come here myself after I learned that there was an ambush on my family’s house once more,” he told Fox News. “I still haven’t heard anything from our government as far as any sort of assistance. I pleased for help from the U.S. government. I did not receive any.” {eoa}
