Glass windows and a glass entry door were smashed in Jackson, Michigan, early Wednesday in an office building that Congressman Tim Walberg and Jackson Right to Life share. Jackson Right to Life’s sign was covered with pink spray paint that read “Jane’s Revenge.”

When Kathy Potts, the executive director of Jackson Right to Life, heard about the incident, her first response wasn’t anger. It was sadness.

She was sad “for people that would do such a thing … that they were in such a dark place and so filled with hate and rage that they would do something like this.”

Out of her sadness, Potts did something unexpected. “I went to prayer, and I prayed for them.”

She credits her response to God’s providence. The weekend before the attack, she and her pastor “had some great talks” about what she would do if there was violence.

Along with her prayer for the attackers, she prayed that future attacks would be handled properly by law enforcement, because she doesn’t think any of the attacks have been handled properly so far.

“What a sad state of affairs that groups like this Jane’s Revenge can resort to terrorism and hate crimes,” Potts says.

In an apparent locational mix-up, the group also accidentally spray-painted pink graffiti on a normal Jackson resident’s house. The graffiti read, “If ABORTion ISNT SAFE NIETHER R U! Jane’s REVENGE.”

Right to Life of Michigan posted on Twitter, “It’s tempting to make fun of the terrorists not reading maps right, not realizing they were vandalizing a Congressman’s office, and for this awful spelling error. But what if this had been one of the firebombers, and they burned this bystander’s house down? This is not funny.”

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has encouraged her followers to “fight like hell” against any abortion ban. While Potts says that she doesn’t know Whitmer’s heart, based on past actions, it seems to her that Whitmer believes the end justifies the means.

“I do think she likes to incite people to aggressive behavior,” Potts says. “She’s just such a radical, pro-abortion governor.”

According to Potts, Jackson, Michigan, differs with Whitmer and is mostly pro-life. She says that the churches and community are very supportive of Jackson Right to Life.

Jackson Right to Life helps women by teaching and advocating for life in Jackson in a variety of ways including billboards, a pro-life motorcade and Life Chain events. They also maintain a presence outside of Planned Parenthood with a sidewalk counselor and prayer partner the whole time the abortion facility is open.

“I believe those people that rage that way are under Satan’s influence in a pretty substantial way,” Potts says of Jane’s Revenge. “We hope that they will have a conversion to come to know Jesus Christ.” {eoa}
