Hubris has been getting mankind into trouble since the ancients walked the earth.

Stories of people trying to elevate themselves to the level of God (or gods that they believed in) demonstrate how such efforts were met with tragedy and death.

Icarus flew too close to the sun; Dr. Frankenstein created his monster; and the movie “The Lazarus Effect” is about trying to raise humans from the dead using a serum. They all show how mankind has suffered because of pride and rebellion.

But what happens when fiction becomes reality and mankind tries to grow life in a laboratory?

On Friday, Dec. 9, 2022, German scientist Hashem Al-Ghaili introduced the concept of the world’s first artificial womb facility. This laboratory, EctoLife, would be able to incubate up to 30,000 babies a year.

“It’s a perfect solution for women who had their uterus surgically removed due to cancer or other complications. With EctoLife, premature births and C-sections will be a thing of the past. EctoLife is designed to help countries that are suffering from severe population decline, including Japan, Bulgaria, South Korea and many others,” according to a news release from EctoLife.

“According to the World Health Organization, around 300,000 women die from pregnancy complications. EctoLife artificial womb is designed to alleviate human suffering and reduce the chances of C-sections,” Hashem wrote.

As the old-saying goes, “the road to hell is paved with good intentions.”

While trying to mimic a woman’s womb, EctoLife says that the baby will be monitored in every conceivable way by an artificial intelligence.

“EctoLife allows your baby to develop in an infection-free environment. The pods are made of materials that prevent germs from sticking to their surfaces. Every growth pod features sensors that can monitor your baby’s vital signs, including heartbeat, temperature, blood pressure, breathing rate and oxygen saturation. The artificial-intelligence-based system also monitors the physical features of your baby and reports any potential genetic abnormalities.”

Also, parents can check in on their little pod-person from the comfort of their couch or while out to dinner by way of a handy app on their mobile device.

“The pods are equipped with a screen that displays real-time data on the developmental progress of your baby. These data are sent directly to your phone so you can track your baby’s health from the comfort of your zone.

“The app also provides you with a high-resolution live view of your baby’s development. A special section in the app allows you to watch a time-lapse of your baby’s growth and share it directly with your loved ones.”

But wait, there’s more! Parents of a prospective lab-grown person can also customize their little one in a variety of ways:

“If you want your baby to stand out and have a brighter future, our Elite Package offers you the opportunity to genetically engineer the embryo before implanting it into the artificial womb. Thanks to CRISPR-Cas 9 gene editing tool, you can edit any trait of your baby through a wide range of over 300 genes. By genetically engineering a set of genes, the Elite Package allows you to customize your baby’s eye color, hair color, skin tone, physical strength, height and level of intelligence. It also allows you to fix any inherited genetic diseases that are part of your family history so that your baby and their offspring will live a healthy comfortable life free of genetic diseases. Say goodbye to the pain of childbirth and birth-related muscle contractions.”

Did God not design sexual intercourse in the context of marriage to be a good thing?

Does it not represent the marriage between King Jesus and the church?

Did God not design women to bear children and develop a unique and wonderful bond with them while in the womb?

There are many questions regarding the viability, health and safety of pod-babies to list, but are humans simply going to overlook the morality and ethics behind this type of future? {eoa}
