Former House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been banned from receiving communion in the Catholic Church, but that didn’t stop her from contacting priests within the church to come to her home and rid it of evil spirits.

Alexandra Pelosi, Nancy Pelosi’s daughter, told the New York Times recently that her mother called priest to perform an exorcism during Thanksgiving week, just weeks after her husband, Paul, was allegedly attacked with a hammer there by David DePape.

Alexandra told the New York Times her mother felt “guilty” that her husband was injured by a man who was looking for her.

“I think that weighed really heavy on her soul,” Alexandra says. “I think she felt really guilty. I think that really broke her. Over Thanksgiving, she had priests coming, trying to have an exorcism of the house and having prayer services.”

Ironically in May, Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordielone laid down an edict that prevents Nancy Pelosi from receiving the sacrament of communion because she has declined to back down from her push for abortion access.

The archbishop said that he told Pelosi repeatedly that she should not publicly continue her stance on advocacy for abortion rights or refrain from referring to her faith in public, and if she did, he would have no choice but to deny her communion privileges. Over the past year especially, many Catholic Church leaders have spoken out against Catholic politicians who support abortion.

Pelosi has continued her stance on abortion and has refused to back down despite the repercussions.

In October, media outlets reported that DePape broke into the Pelosi’s Bay Area home and that the suspect beat Paul Pelosi with a hammer. Paul Pelosi was reportedly knocked unconscious and woke up in a pool of his own blood. He later underwent surgery to repair a skill fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hands.

“It’s a miracle that this kind of thing never happened sooner,” Alexandra told the New York times. “We were always worried. It’s like your worse fear coming to life.”

DePape is being charged with attempted murder, residential burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. He could be sent to prison for decades if he is found guilty.

2023CMPrintcoverExorcisms are typically reserved for those of the Catholic faith. Nancy Pelosi is a self-described “devout Catholic,” although she ignored Archibishop Cordielone’s requests to halt her stance on abortion.

Last year, Cordielone wrote to Pelosi and said, in part, “A Catholic legislator who supports procured abortion, after knowing the teaching of the church, commits a manifestly grave sin which is a cause of most serious scandal to others. Therefore, universal Church law provides that such persons “are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.” {eoa}
