Twitter Campaign Aims to Help Free Youcef Nadarkhani

We’ve witnessed the power of social media to impact the world. Now, the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) is sponsoring a Twitter campaign it hopes will help change Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani’s world.

Nadarkhani was charged, convicted and sentenced to death for apostasy in Iran. After more than 840 days behind bars in sometimes torturous conditions, the Full Gospel pastor is holding tightly to his faith in Jesus Christ. The ACLJ is reporting that Nadarkhani is under increasing pressure to recant, but continues to refuse the opportunity to deny Christ.

Dubbed “Tweet for Youcef,” the campaign aims to put more pressure on the Iranian government to end the injustice the husband and father of two boys has endured for close to three years. As the ACLJ sees it, Nadarkhani is alive today because of international pressure on Iran and this is no time to ease up.

Here’s how it works: When you click the blue “Tweet for Youcef” button on the campaign page, you’ll be taken to a Twitter app page. Once logged into Twitter, the social media site will ask you to authorize the ACLJ to post tweets for you about Nadarkhani. The ACJL promises only to tweet about Nadarkhani and no other topic or cause—and only once a day.

Here’s an example tweet:

“#Nadarkhani Day 828 http://ACLJ.us/ucef Pastor Youcef was arrested while registering his church in Rasht, #Iran on 10/13/09 via@officialACLJ.”

Each tweet will end in “via@OfficialACLJ” so people know the source of the information. The link in your tweets will allow people to come back to the campaign page for more information.
