Kathryn Kuhlman’s Foundation Shutters Doors 40 Years After Her Death

Forty years after the healing evangelist’s death, Kathryn Kuhlman’s Foundation is shuttering its doors.

“Presently, due to insufficient funds, we have had to make a very difficult decision,” said Carol Gray, executive director, in a statement. “After much prayer and seeking God’s will, we believe it is in God’s timing for the foundation to begin the process of closing.”

Kuhlman died 40 years ago from a heart condition.

Known for her electric personality, unique style of dress and speaking in a deliberate voice, Kuhlman captivated audiences and frequently called out healings occurring in the auditorium. Long before the Toronto Revival, people were slain in the Spirit at her meetings, although she banned outbursts of tongues, dancing or prophecy, Charisma News previously reported

The author of a series of best-selling books, in the 1960s and ’70s her weekly TV programs (I Believe in Miracles) aired nationwide and in Canada. Over the last 11 years of her life, she hosted monthly, typically packed services at the Shrine Auditorium in Pasadena, California.

Kuhlman established the foundation that bears her name in 1954. At its peak, it had a staff of 30, funded her radio and TV ministry, and helped establish two dozen missions around the world.

The foundation downsized to four employees.

The foundation continued to receive emails and letters from around the world with prayer requests and requests for books and DVDs. Gray attributes much activity to a budding interest in the work of the Holy Spirit, a topic covered extensively in a 1997 collection of Kuhlman’s sermons, The Greatest Power in the World. In recent years, the foundation released a DVD that included messages on the rapture and the Second Coming.

Now, the Post-Gazette reports Kuhlman’s materials will go to the Billy Graham Center Archives at Wheaton College.

“We are so grateful for the privilege the foundation has had over these past 40 years to continue to uplift Jesus, the Savior that Kathryn Kuhlman loved and served so well,” Gray said.

She thanked “the dear friends and partners who have supported the ministry with their gifts and prayers, making it possible for the foundation to continue sharing the love of God with others.”
