President Trump Calls for an Investigation Into Backers of ‘Tax March’ Protesters

Over the weekend, tens of thousands of protesters around the country marched in a coordinated effort to demand that President Donald Trump release his full tax returns, sparking an angry response on Twitter:

I did what was an almost an impossible thing to do for a Republican-easily won the Electoral College! Now Tax Returns are brought up again?

Someone should look into who paid for the small organized rallies yesterday. The election is over!

Actually, it didn’t take much looking at all, Mr. President. The Center for American Progress—a political action organization launched by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign chairman John Podesta—announced the “Tax March” would happen in an email to supporters on Friday.

The email correctly states the president had promised to release those returns during the campaign. However, it also makes note that by not releasing the returns, he’s breaking a “precedent” that is only 40 years old—while the federal income tax is 100 years old.

The email also included a link to find the “local” marches at nearly 200 locations in 44 states, Washington, D.C., and in four foreign countries. The site was also kind enough to identify those responsible for leading this effort, and topping the list was CAP’s vice president for income sSecurity and Education.

Prior to joining CAP, she was the vice president of policy and research at the CAP Action Fund, the arm of the organization that is directly involved in electioneering. She also served in policy roles for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the House Democratic Caucus.

Others involved in organizing the protests are leaders of the socialist Working Families Party, the Trump “resistance” 501c(4) group Indivisible Project, and several college professors who openly engage in “social justice.”

The website also lists its demands:

President Trump is the first president or major-party presidential candidate in four decades to refuse to release his tax returns to the public. We march to demand that the president release his returns, as he has repeatedly promised, but failed, to do. We march because it is in the best interest of the American people to know what financial entanglements and conflicts of interest our leaders have. Because we need to know if the president is personally profiting from the policies he is proposing. And because we want know if he has contributed his fair share of taxes. We march because we will not stand by while the rich and the powerful govern this country guided only by their personal best interests, and not the best interests of the American people as a whole.

President Trump must release his full tax returns. We believe that public servants must be accountable to the people who elect them. The public has a right to understand the financial relationships and potential conflicts of interest of their elected leaders. Therefore, President Trump must immediately release his full tax returns, as all presidents and major-party presidential candidates have done for the last 40 years. Congress should enact legislation requiring this president and future presidential candidates to disclose their tax returns.

Of course, the liberal mainstream media attempted to laugh off the notion these protests were a coordinated effort—despite having access to the same email obtained by Charisma Caucus. Instead, they attempted to portray the protests as organic expressions of the electorate’s anger with the president.

In other words, it was yet another coordinated effort to delegitimize the Trump presidency. {eoa}
