Christian Song Leads Man to Confess to Murder
An incarcerated man says a Christian song led him to confess to murder.
During his trial, Danny Dashay Holmes pleaded guilty to killing Cesar Lopez-Flores and kidnapping Brittany Johnson. The Daily News Journal reports Holmes will receive a life sentence.
Holmes shot and killed Lopez-Flores on Dec. 16, 2016. He also kidnapped Johnson while she was waiting to pick up a friend and forced her to drive to Lopez-Flores’ home. There, he and several other suspects killed Lopez-Flores but left Johnson alive.
Holmes explained to the court that the reason he confessed to the murder was because God changed his life over a year ago. What ultimately led him to confess was a Christian song called “Redeemed” by Big Daddy Weave.
Part of the lyrics say: “Then You look at this prisoner and say to me, ‘Son, stop fighting a fight that’s already been won.'” After reading those lyrics, Holmes says he knew he had to tell the truth.
“I knew the Lord was just on me, weighing on me over and over,” Holmes says. “I’m 30 years old, and I’ve been fighting for nothing all my life. I’ve been fighting for gangs. … I ain’t never fought for anything that made sense. But I knew the Lord was telling me to fight for Him this time. I just knew He was stirring on my spirit.”
The Daily News Journal reports that Holmes’ family sobbed during his statement.
“Momma, you know I love you,” Holmes said. “But Momma, I promise you, your baby boy, he’s going to serve the Lord forever.”
Holmes also says he has been praying for Lopez-Flores’ family. {eoa}
