Healing Evangelist Katie Souza: ‘There Is Such a Thing as Overly Repenting’

Be Revived: Defeat the Spirit of Death With the Power of Life by Katie Souza will hit bookshelves in March 2020. Souza’s first book, Healing the Wounded Soul, built on her ministry to heal the faithful from physical and spiritual issues. Be Revived goes deeper by teaching readers how to tap into youth-restoring promises from the Bible.

Souza examines the process of repentance by using a court case as a metaphor. She acknowledges that as fallen people, we are most likely guilty of our charges: “As prosecutor, Satan wants to win his case, so he only uses viable evidence against you. Thus the charges against you are more than likely true.”

But as Souza reminds readers, “you are in the grace court, so there is more than enough grace present to wipe out your sins.”

She also notes that there is such a thing as “overly repenting,” or asking God for forgiveness for the same sin multiple times, never allowing oneself to feel the peace of His grace. This attitude points to a lack of faith in Jesus.

Souza writes, “When you repent excessively, you step out of faith, not believing that your sins were totally forgiven through Christ’s sacrifice. The Bible says Jesus died once for all so you could be made righteous. If you are constantly repenting and not moving into your victory, you probably don’t believe that Jesus’ sacrifice was enough.”

Walking in faith means knowing that you are not condemned and that you can go and sin no more. Souza describes the feeling of total repentance as a burden lifting. She speaks from her story of coming to Christ while in federal prison.

After a career in dealing and cooking meth, among a number of other felonies, Souza reached her breaking point behind bars and surrendered to God. Now she empowers others to repent and release themselves from their past.

Souza says, “Come boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace in your time of need (Heb. 4:16). Be confident in Christ as you face your adversary, Satan, in court. Then prophetically decree Hebrews 4:16, which states your scriptural right to enter. Ask the Holy Spirit to accompany you as you approach the judge of all the earth. The Holy Spirit is your Advocate (John 14:26), a ‘person who pleads the cause of another in a court of law.'” {eoa}
