3 Keys to Breaking the Spirit of Poverty
Prophetic minister Hakeem Collins says that the spirit of poverty manifests itself in various ways.
First, if you’re blessed with things but they’re never enough for you, you have a spirit of poverty and need to learn contentment. Another key to breaking that spirit is by becoming generous with your wealth and possessions. Finally, the third key is trusting in God to provide for your future.
“There’s a hunger and desire from seeking more,” Collins says. “There’s just never enough. A certain person that has a spirit of poverty, it’s like they get a job or a new job and then immediately they start looking for another job. They get a car, they start looking for a new car, a brand new car. They get a house, immediately they start looking. It’s just like they’re never satisfied or content. …
“We have to make sure that we are able to be givers. You are more blessed to give than to receive. Wise men invest in people, but a fool accumulates and stores for himself or herself. We have to make sure that we are able to pour out.”
It’s very common for people to hoard wealth in order to feel secure, but this only leads to anxiety and worry about tomorrow. If people have a poverty spirit, they can also have a spirit of anxiety, Collins says on the Prophetic Breakthrough podcast on the Charisma Podcast Network.
“People with the spirit of poverty are always worried about tomorrow,” Collins says. “The Bible says not to worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow is not promised. It’s like everything they do is because of their worrying about tomorrow. You have to live for today. You have to live for now. …
“A person who lives in worry of tomorrow cannot meditate on the Word of God. You have to make sure that your focus is on the Word of God. Your focus is on your family, those that you love. Focus on your calling, your purpose and live it out to the full.”
