4 Sources of Strength in Challenging Times

Share:

In a chapter that foretells the crucifixion of the Son of God, the Most High promises to “divide the spoil with the strong” (Isa. 53:12b).

Spoil is plunder taken from an enemy defeated in battle. What enemy is being referred to? And what “spoil” have we inherited?

How can human beings who are beset with weaknesses ever qualify to be called “the strong”?

Four sources of strength make God’s people invincible, unconquerable and everlastingly victorious.

No wonder Scripture commands, “Let the weak say, I am strong” (Joel 3:10, KJV). In these chaotic times, we need the revelation of this name that rests on God’s people.

  1. Strong in faith. Romans 4:19-20 says concerning Abraham: “being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead … but was strong in faith, giving glory to God.”
  1. Strong in the Lord. “Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might” (Eph. 6:10).
  1. Strong in the grace of God. “Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus” (2 Tim. 2:1b).
  1. Strong in Our weakness. Paul confessed, “a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me … Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness’ … Therefore, I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Cor. 12:7-10).
