Abortion Is Mercy? Maybe to This Actress, But the Bible Defines the Word Much Differently

In the King James Version of the Bible, the word mercy is used 292 times.

According to the King James Bible Dictionary, mercy is defined as “compassion for the miserable. Its object is misery. By the atoning sacrifice of Christ a way is open for the exercise of mercy towards the sons of men, in harmony with the demands of truth and righteousness.”

But never—ever—is mercy in the Bible connected to killing. But that’s what actress Anne Hathaway told members of the panel on a recent episode of “The View.” An abortion rights activist, Hathaway is the star of such films as “The Devil Wears Prada,” “The Princess Diaries,” “Love and Other Drugs” and “The Dark Night Rises.”

“My own personal experience with abortion and I don’t think we talk about this enough, abortion can be another word for mercy,” she said. “We don’t know. We don’t know.

“We know that no two pregnancies are alike, and it follows that no two lives are alike, it follows that no two conceptions are alike. So how can we have a law, how can we have a point of view on this that says we must treat everything the same?”

In July, to promote the 16th anniversary of “The Devil Wears Prada,” Hathaway posted this on Instagram shortly after the overturning of Roe v. Wade:

“Looking back on photos of this beloved film that shaped the lives and careers of so many—mine included—I am struck by the fact that the young female characters in this movie built their lives and careers in a country that honored their right to have choice over their own reproductive health. See you in the fight.”

What would Jesus say to Hathaway’s remarks? He certainly is all about forgiveness, but it doesn’t appear that Hathaway will repent of them any time soon.

Yes, there is mercy, but He is also a just God. Let us all join in and pray that Hathaway does repent and sees the light of God’s true mercy. {eoa}
