Declaring Your Supernatural Recovery

For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work. If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire (1 Cor. 3: 11-15, NASB 1995).

Everyone builds their life on something. This even includes our thoughts. When we dwell on something, we are essentially building our life on those thoughts. Our thoughts influence who we are and who we are becoming.

“For as he thinks within himself, so he is” (Prov. 23:7a).

Another aspect that we are building our life on is our words. What we say, we build our life upon, because your words cause your life to go in a certain trajectory. You are building your life by your words. Remember James told us the story about a big ship that was controlled by a tiny rudder.

“Look at the ships also, though they are so great and are driven by strong winds, are still directed by a very small rudder wherever the inclination of the pilot desires” (James 3:4).

So it is my friends, with our tongue. What you say will steer the direction of your life, just like the tiny rudder of a large ship. Each of us holds the power to determine whether we are going to speak a word of anger or hold our anger. We have the power to choose to gossip or not to gossip. We have the power to say, “I forgive you” or to ask for forgiveness. We have the power to bless, affirm or encourage someone, or to be spiteful and cold. We have the power to pick up the phone and reach out to build or reconcile a relationship. We have the power to determine whether we will tell somebody about Jesus or pray for them—or not.

What Paul was telling us: Everybody builds their life on something. Either they are building it with precious stones of gold and silver, or they are building with wood, hay and stubble. And at the end of our life, all our works will be tested. Some people will be rewarded, and others are going to suffer. And what they have will be taken away, because they did not even use the talent(s) God gave them.
