‘Duck Dynasty’s’ Sadie Robertson Weighs In on the Duggar Family Scandal
Sadie Robertson is sharing some words of wisdom with the Duggar family after recent scandals involving the eldest son.
The Duck Dynasty darling tells People, “If they can forgive him, it will all work out.”
Josh Duggar recently entered “a long-term treatment facility” after reports surfaced showing he was a member of Ashley Madison, a website to arrange extra-marital affairs.
The former stars of 19 Kids and Counting have been dealing with the fallout of Josh’s decisions since earlier this summer, when it came to light he had molested five minors, including some of his sisters.
Like the Duggars, the Robertsons have encountered their own tribulations that affected their TV broadcasts.
“They almost canceled Duck Dynasty whenever my grandpa said the things that he said, and that would have been, in my opinion, not a very good decision, because that was putting one man’s words in all of our mouths,” Robertson tells the magazine.
She believes the same concept of not judging the whole family because of one person applies to the Duggars, as well.
“Josh Duggar, that’s not his whole family. His whole family didn’t do that. He made a mistake,” Robertson says.
The rest of the Duggar family appears to be turning to God during this time of crisis.
On their family blog, mom and dad Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar write about their son’s “wrong choices,” and how his decisions have negatively affected the whole family.
“As parents we are so deeply grieved by our son’s decisions and actions,” they write. “We pray that in this he comes to complete repentance and sincere change. In the meantime, we will be offering our love, care and devoted support to Anna and our grandchildren as she also receives counsel and help for her own heart and future. During this time we continue to look to God—He is our rock and comfort. We ask for your continued prayers for our entire family.”
The Duggars say they’ve received an outpouring of support from their fans, though there have been many who are vocally criticizing the “family values” the Duggars support.
Robertson says her clan has been there, as well.
“It honestly makes me really sad that they’re having to go through this, because it’s one thing to go through it as a family, and it would be just as hard for them if they weren’t in the limelight,” Robertson says. “… Everybody’s talking about it, and that just adds that many more comments, that many more opinions. We’ve been there, it’s hard.”
