Looking for Love? Christian Leaders Give Their Best Valentine’s Advice

Valentine’s Day can be a difficult time for Christian singles, as the world around them celebrates romance and companionship. It can even present itself to be a difficult time for those who are married but feel like their relationship is struggling. Regardless of what side of the equation you may fall under, there are biblical truths that can help guide you to have the very best marriage possible.

Below are a few pieces of practical advice and wise counsel from Christian leaders to help guide you in all your relationship needs.

Kap Chatfield

In a short reaction video, Kap Chatfield shared a pastor’s advice on the power of intentionality. Chatfield urges people to simply do the things together that were originally part of their lives when they first began dating. Whether that’s going out for coffee because a couple first met and went on coffee dates together, or whether they pick another activity to do together, the whole point and purpose is to keep getting to know the person you first fell in love with.

“Our culture puts so much emphasis on preparing for a wedding day. But the wedding day isn’t the finish line. It’s the starting point,” Chatfield says.

Mike and Julie Signorelli

Pastor Mike Signorelli and his wife, Julie, also recently gave some practical advice using their past marriage struggles to help others couples and singles learn how to form better relationship habits that will lead each other to Christ.

“The differences are supposed to complement,” Mike Signorelli says.

Julie Signorelli points out that a key is trying to treat her spouse as though they were dating, something she does to show appreciation and kindness. By treating her spouse with dignity and respect, it ultimately brings out the very best inside of them.

“When you honor a good man that honor produces humility in that man,” Mike says.

In the same way, Mike Signorelli, also encourages men to realize that women are looking for a sense of security and safety, something they desire above all else. By understanding these basic principles, it can lead to better care for each partner.

John and Christian Bevere

In a recent episode on Christian Bevere’s YouTube channel, she had on John Bevere, who tackled the tough subject of whether or not God chooses the person we marry, or if we ultimately are free to marry whoever we want.

“I think it’s both, honestly,” John says. “I think God gives us a free choice. I would hate for my children not to have free choice. However, if my children are wise, they’re going to listen to my input. And so, as a wise child, I want God’s input.”

John mentions how before he met and married his wife, Lisa, he dated other girls who were Christians with a pressurized feeling that he had to marry just because they were Christians. However, that’s when God spoke to him, letting him know that none of them were his wife. Reflecting back on one instance in particular where was praying about going to a dance with one girl in particular the Lord gave him some clear insight.

“God said, ‘You can go with her if you want, but if you want My will, don’t.'”

Whether making decisions about a future spouse, working through marital struggles or seeking contentment in singleness, we must listen for God’s voice through prayer, Scripture, and the prompting of the Holy Spirit. His wisdom leads to relationships built on faith, patience, and selfless love, reflecting the heart of Christ. When we surrender our desires and trust in His timing, we can walk in peace, knowing that He is faithful to guide our steps.
