McDonald’s is Officially Teaching Adults to Never Grow Up

McDonald’s. For many, it’s associated with fries, a selection of quick bites for a cheap price, the famous Big Mac and for children, the Happy Meal.

Apparently, some never grow out of wanting the Happy Meal in particular.

While some may want a smaller portion size or opt for a Happy Meal for one reason or another, the Happy Meal has become classic for many adults now because of the feeling that it evokes when they receive a toy with the meal.

Hence, the limited-time offer of “The Collector’s Meal.”

The Collector’s Meal is essentially a Happy Meal for grown-ups that comes with a limited-edition cup evoking nostalgic, childhood moments featuring images of Hello Kitty, Barbie, Shrek, Beanie Babies and more.

The Collector’s Meal options on the McDonald’s website include a 10-piece chicken McNugget meal, a Big Mac meal or a breakfast sausage McMuffin with egg.

If you look a bit below the surface, why do adults need a piece of nostalgia on a mug? Why are we fostering a society that teaches adults, especially young adults, to stay as children?

“In 20 years, ur gonna be happy u collected all 6 limited edition cups,” McDonald’s wrote on Facebook.

There’s even a collector’s group on Facebook with over 9,000 members to reminisce about the good old days of childhood of collecting McDonald’s toys.

While there’s nothing inherently wrong about a walk down memory lane, this unfortunately speaks to the culture-at-large where everything has been flipped upside-down.

We expect adults to continue acting as children, yet society has pressured children to grow up as quickly as possible, pushing them to make decisions about topics like gender and sexual identity as soon as they are out of the womb.

Now, children face the weight of being exposed to shows and books that also depict demonic practices as well, before they can even grasp what those things are. We place little pressure on young adults to become valuable assets to our society, yet we’ve placed the whole world on the shoulders of those still too little to understand it.

In a world flipped around, this is a moment for Christians to be the kind of leaders that the world desperately needs. We need strong men and women who will pave the pathway for a kind of society that is worth living while also protecting children from the pressures of things they were never meant to be exposed to in the first place.
