Mel Gibson Reveals Shocking Details About ‘Resurrection of the Christ’
After years of speculation, Mel Gibson is finally breaking his silence on the long-awaited sequel to The Passion of the Christ, confirming a massive expansion of the story that will now span two separate films.
CBN’s Hollywood insider Billy Hallowell shared the news in a recent update, calling the development “more and more interesting.” According to Hallowell, “Mel Gibson is starting to speak out more about this and there have been all sorts of murmurings… Last year we heard it might be two films, not one film.”

Gibson reportedly spent eight years writing the script for The Resurrection of the Christ, which he says is not a continuation of the original 2004 blockbuster. “It’s not just this simple project that’s going to pick up where the last one left off,” Hallowell explained. “There’s a lot to consider in this.”
Among the most surprising revelations: the story will begin with the fall of the angels. “Mel Gibson just said… the reason it’s two films, he has to go all the way back to the fall of the angels,” said Hallowell. “He said before at the beginning… It’s not one film. It’s two films because it’s massive.”
While no release date has been confirmed, Hallowell speculated that audiences could expect a premiere “probably next year.” He also confirmed that the original Passion still holds massive legacy weight: “Mel Gibson spent $30 million on it. It made almost a billion dollars… It was the highest grossing R-rated movie until last year.” That record was recently broken by Deadpool & Wolverine, but The Passion remains a global box office phenomenon.
Hallowell also commented on the broader movement in Christian content, connecting the rise of The Chosen, Amazon’s David and other faith-based programs to a renewed hunger for truth. “Because of some of the lies in culture, people [are] seeking the truth,” he said. “It’s causing, I think, more interest in these sorts of things.”
Importantly, Hallowell emphasized his hope that Gibson will stick closely to Scripture. “Tell the story… just using the source material and not adding a bunch of Hollywood twisted niceties into it,” he said. “I’m excited to see an adaptation of the Resurrection of Jesus just using the source material.”
He added, “To me, what makes the most sense when you stack up all of the evidence and everything that happened is that yes, Jesus of Nazareth really rose from the grave. And that to me is the most important fact in the history of this planet.”

As anticipation grows, Gibson’s return could mark a new era for biblical epics on the big screen. “He’s been working on this for almost a decade,” Hallowell said, “and sort of gives hopefully not an end cap, but another boost to this sort of content… He really is the one in the modern era that kind of sparked a lot of this.”
With the Resurrection story now expanding into a two-part cinematic event, possibly including angels, the fall and even Nephilim, Resurrection of the Christ may prove to be Gibson’s most ambitious biblical project yet.
