Whoopi Goldberg Invokes Matthew 7:12 as Justification for Abortion
“The View” Co-Host Whoopi Goldberg is in the spotlight again after claiming that God gives people free will to have abortions.
In a sit-down conversation on Wednesday with former co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, the leftist co-host claimed, “God doesn’t make mistakes, God made us smart enough to know when it wasn’t going to work for us.”
Goldberg mentioned on the show that the former co-host was “her first conservative,” and she was happy to have her back on. The two were talking about the Aug. 2 vote in Kansas to uphold the current abortion access in the state, which is legal up to 22 weeks. That “no” vote was the first vote by a state since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
Many political activists believe that “no” vote was largely due to the confusing nature of the question on the ballot.
Goldberg says in her defense of pro-choice, “That’s the beauty of [God] giving us freedom of choice.” She also quoted a verse from the Bible saying “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
Although Goldberg’s idea sounds good in theory—that is not what Hasselbeck believes the Bible says. In a poignant stand against the notion that free will gives you the right to abort an unborn baby, Hasselbeck shared on the show that, “Our Creator assigns value to life and those lives have plan and purpose over them as designed by God.”
No matter the circumstance in which a child is conceived, Hasselbeck believes every baby deserves life and mentioned the numerous resources available to pregnant women nationwide—specifically offered by non-profit organizations. “There are thousands of agencies that wrap around women that might not be able to care for the baby once born…that will come around at no cost,” Hasselbeck said.
Hasselbeck was invited back on the show to commemorate the 25th season. She was on “The View” from 2003 to 2013. The two shared the importance of having conversations with people who think differently than you do and how you can do that in love.
“I think sometimes we’re in this world now that seems so divided, right? But we have women, we have women, we have male friends and we get to talk about these issues and I think the last time I was here, I think the best thing is not to double grip on issues,” Hasselbeck says. “So hold your issue in one hand, hold your position on one hand and hold the hand of your friend in another. If we can’t do that as a society, we’re really teaching our kids the wrong way to talk about hard things.”
Hasselbeck brought up a question to the hosts on the show which was, “what is really ethical?” She argued Americans can value the life of women as well as the child in the womb. In an Instagram post following her appearance on “The View,” Hasselbeck posted a photo with Whoopi Goldberg captioning it, “disagree with kindness.”
Compared to some of the shows more heated conversations in the past, the two were able to share their beliefs with love and kindness. {eoa}
