Are you concerned about a pending financial disaster in 2023? While analysts are predicting an impending recession coming in 2023, you may be concerned how that will affect the life changes and decisions you have planned for the year. Could this impact your job?

It’s no surprise there are uncertain times ahead of us, especially concerning an impending recession. JP Morgan global head of equity macro research says, “This proverbial snowball should continue to gain momentum next year as consumers and [companies] more meaningfully cut discretionary spending and capital investments.”

During these trying times it is essential that believer’s look to what cannot be shaken—the Word of God.

Dr. David Jeremiah recently shared seven biblical principles to prepare for a 2023 recession. Here they are:

  1. Decide to trust in the Lord. Psalm 37:3 says, “Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and practice faithfulness.” Jeremiah reminds believers that trust is not an emotion, it’s a decision you have to make within yourself.
  2. Do things that honor the Lord. “Instead of sitting home and worrying about what you’re losing, spend your time giving. It takes the enemy by surprise,” Jeremiah says.
  3. Dwell on the faithfulness of the Lord.
  4. Delight yourself in the Lord. Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
  5. Dedicate your life to the Lord. Psalm 37:5 says, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust also in Him, and He will bring it to pass.” In these hard moments you go back to the simplicity of your faith, the purpose of why you have faith in the first place.
  6. Download your worry to the Lord. Psalm 37:7 says, “Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of those who prosper in their way, because of those who make wicked schemes.” Jeremiah equates worry to fearing the future. The Bible reminds us that tomorrow has enough problems of it’s own and to focus on the day your are living in.
  7. Discipline yourself to wait on the Lord. “Waiting is purifying. Waiting produces patience. Waiting reminds you that while you live in a time zone, Almighty God does not,” he says. God allows time between hearing His promises for our life and watching them come to pass, to deepen our trust in Him.

No matter how a financial downturn could affect your life, Christians live under the promises of God. Jesus leaves the 99 sheep for the lost one. He will not allow you to be left alone with no provisions. He is our Jehovah Jireh, the God of more than enough.

Allow this season to be a season you look back on and say it was a time that strengthened my faith and trust in the Lord to new heights and new levels. This side of heaven is our only opportunity to put our faith into action. One day we will be with Him in His glorious presence and we will be glad we made the decision to trust rather than to fear. {eoa}
