Holy Spirit Still Healing Lives 20 Years After Columbine Tragedy

As a journalist and public speaker, Billy Hallowell has covered the 1999 Columbine school shooting tragedy for several years. He wants to make sure people don’t forget its significance, and the incredible “God” stories that have resulted in survivors’ lives in the 20 years since.

The incident at the Littleton, Colorado, high school saw two gunmen take the lives of 12 students and one teacher while wounding 23 others. Hallowell, who has befriended Columbine survivors, says the story continues to impact lives.

“I’ve been telling their [survivors’] story, and God has shown me through the power of perseverance through that story, and having the chance to tell it again, that no matter what happens to you, you can overcome the pain with your faith, through God,” Hallowell told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of “Greenelines” on the Charisma Podcast Network.

“That’s the message we all need. Not all of us are going through a shooting or a horrible event like that. But when you see other people who have faced the unimaginable overcome it and hold on to their relationship with Christ and actually get closer to Christ through it, it puts everything we face into perspective.

“I tell a lot of stories about overcoming. That’s what God puts in my lap all the time, people who overcome—not just with that story, but so many others. When we face things, we can see the examples that other people have given us of how to journey through it.”
