Ministry Ignites Bible Engagement by ‘Seeing Jesus on Every Page’
A 2017 Barna survey revealed that only 20 percent of Christians read, use or listen to the Bible four times a week or more.
David Bowden is well aware of these discouraging statistics. In fact, the decline has inspired Bowden, the founder of Spoken Gospel, a nonprofit media ministry, to help more believers “see and savor the good news of Jesus on every page of the Bible.”
Through podcasts and videos on spokengospel.com, the goal of the ministry is to deepen and transform Bible engagement to reshape individuals, churches and cultures with the gospel. The website contains a full library of videos to help people see Jesus “on every page of the Bible.”
“We believe the only path to transformative Bible engagement is to see Jesus and his gospel wherever you are in the story,” Bowden told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of “Greenelines” on the Charisma Podcast Network. “Only by seeing the light of the gospel in the face of Jesus can we be transformed into His image.”
A graduate of Oral Roberts University and executive director of Spoken Gospel, Eric Smith says reaching believers on their cell phones with the gospel has become a huge trend in culture.
“The No. 1 performing media use, especially online, is video consumption,” Smith says. “Bible engagement is in decline, so our idea was to make media they want to understand. It’s an introduction to a book of the Bible, every book, so that they will want to go read their Bible every day and see the main theme of every book is fulfilled in Jesus.”
