Prayer Teacher Says This Election Goes Far Beyond Party Lines

As a former pastor and a continued messenger of hope for the kingdom, David Bryant has been preaching and teaching on prayer for decades. He’s written books about it and conducted lengthy seminars on it.

So with what many say is the most important election in American history arriving in only a few days, Bryant wants people to know the primary focus is not praying for one specific candidate to emerge victorious. For believers, the issue is much more serious.

Bryant taught this very principle in detail this week on his podcast, Christ Today With David Bryant, on the Charisma Podcast Network. He says he’s not a Democrat or Republican; he’s a royalist—meaning he supports the “one who reigns over all.”

“I’ve worked with prayer movements of prayer leaders around the world, and I’ve come to the conclusion that the single greatest principle for igniting and sustaining effective prayer is to be clear on the hope that we’re praying toward,” Bryant told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of Greenelines on the Charisma Podcast Network. “We need greater revelation and clarity on the hope of the things that we don’t yet see, the things that have not happened, and that they are based on the promises of God that we’re praying toward.

“I didn’t say praying for, I said praying toward,” Bryant said. “We’re on a mission. It’s heading somewhere. So, whatever kind of prayer meetings that take place on Tuesday, anywhere, if we’re all wrapped up praying for our candidate to win, then we’re not praying biblical prayers. This isn’t the way you do it.

“What we need to ask is, what would it look like if God were to bring life to this nation, a fulfillment of some of the exceedingly great and precious promises He’s given us in the Lord Jesus?” Bryant asked. “What would that look like? I ask, ‘Can I live without that?’ The answer is no. ‘Can I produce that?’ The answer is no. So I’ve got to seek that. So then we begin to pray toward that hope for our nation. And to me, that’s what I say that I’m a royalist and not a Democrat or Republican, because I want to see Christ’s kingdom advanced. Our prayers are the key.”
