Spirit-Filled Megachurch Pastor: ‘I’ve Got Good News and Bad News’
Most of us have heard the famous line, “I’ve got good news and I’ve got bad news.” But Spirit-filled pastor and author Skip Heitzig says that, when it comes to the death and resurrection of Jesus, you can’t have one without the other.
The bad news, as Paul states in Romans 3:23, that “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” The Good News is that Jesus Christ died for your sins and rose from the grave, and because of that, you are a redeemed child of God.
This concept, Heitzig says, is something that many pastors are failing to preach from the pulpit these days
“There is no Good News unless you understand the bad news,” Heitzig told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of “Greenelines” on the Charisma Podcast Network. “The bad news is that we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. And unless you understand how bad that news is, you’ll never appreciate and love the Good News. Without it, the gospel falls flat.
“We get people in our churches and we want to make them feel good in the state they’re in because we want them to come back. People need to acknowledge the bad news before they can fully understand the Good News that, without the death and resurrection, our preaching, as Paul said, is useless.”
