Are We Approaching a ‘Nuclear Holocaust?’ Trump Admin Warns of Possible Annihilation

Are we closer to the age of doom?

In a recent video posted to X, director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, shared about her trip to Hiroshima, Japan, and how the effects of World War II have continued to plague people there generations later. However, Gabbard warns that what happened then is nothing compared to what we could see today.

“I recently visited Hiroshima in Japan and stood at the epicenter of a city that remains scarred by the unimaginable horror caused by a single nuclear bomb dropped in 1945, 80 years ago,” says Gabbard. “It’s hard for me to find the words to express what I saw, the stories that I heard, the haunting sadness that still remains.”

Gabbard points out that the city was completely destroyed, and with it, 300,000 people tragically gone. If they were not killed in an instant, burns, radiation and cancer plagued them.

However, Gabbard says that the heartbreak that struck this area is just a glimpse of what we could experience if nuclear weapons were utilized in our modern era.

“The bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima had a yield of just 15 kilotons of TNT. Whereas today’s nuclear warheads range in size from 100 kilotons to over one megaton,” Gabbard says. “A single nuclear weapon today could kill millions in just minutes.”

She continues to further tell how everything in the wake of these nuclear weapons would be gone in an instant, from humans to buildings and other forms of life. As Gabbard notes, shockwaves would ripple out from the initial place of destruction and kill many more before leaving survivors to experience harsh, apocalyptic conditions.

“Radioactive poisons spreading through the air, water and soil condemning survivors to agonizing deaths or lifelong suffering. A nuclear winter could follow with smoke and ash, completely blocking the sun, plunging the world into darkness and cold, killing crops and starving billions. Acid rain would scar the earth, wiping out entire ecosystems,” she says.

Gabbard insists that this is more than just a science fiction plotline. Instead she believes we are “closer to the brink of nuclear annihilation than ever before.” She puts out the notion that elites may feel confident that they will have access to safe shelters that others will not, asking the average citizens to speak up and “reject this path to nuclear war and work toward a world where no one has to live in fear of a nuclear holocaust.”

So, how should we respond to this?

As sobering as Tulsi Gabbard’s warning may be, it echoes what Scripture has long foretold about the end of days. Jesus spoke of a time when “nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom,” and there would be “famines and earthquakes in various places” (Matt. 24:7). Revelation paints an even more severe picture: global devastation, poisoned waters, scorched earth, and darkness covering the sky (Rev. 8–9). These aren’t just prophetic metaphors—they could mirror the very real consequences of nuclear war. The convergence of escalating global conflict, unchecked technological power, and moral decay points toward the birth pains of the last days.

But even amid such darkness, Scripture offers a radiant hope. The warnings of the end times are not given to induce fear, but to awaken hearts to repentance and prepare the way for the return of Christ. Jesus promised that when we see these things begin to happen, we are to “lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near” (Luke 21:28).

As the world teeters on the brink, the church must rise—not in panic, but in purpose—declaring the gospel of peace, praying for mercy and preparing for the coming King. Let us be reminded that our true refuge is not found in bunkers or political strategies, but in the unshakable kingdom of God.
