In the aftermath, at least nine aftershocks have been recorded, ranging from magnitudes 2.5 to 4.0. The largest aftershock, a magnitude 4.0, occurred at 11:23 a.m. PDT. Thankfully, there have been no immediate reports of major injuries or structural damage. However, minor incidents included rocks falling onto State Route 76 and items being dislodged from shelves in local businesses. CBS News is reporting that USGS seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones indicated the earthquake occurred near the Elsinore Fault, a branch of the San Andreas Fault system, with a smaller magnitude 3.5 quake yesterday, Apr. 13, identified as a foreshock to the larger event.
As we reflect on the events of today, let us come together in prayer for those affected by the earthquake. Let us pray for the safety and protection of the communities in Southern California and northern Mexico, asking for God’s peace and comfort for those shaken by the tremors. We also pray for wisdom and strength for emergency responders and for any necessary recovery efforts. May God continue to watch over and guide the people of this region.
