“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms,” the statement read. “On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.”
The Gleason score of 9 indicates a highly aggressive form of prostate cancer, and metastasis to the bone suggests the disease has already spread beyond the prostate gland.
Despite the seriousness of the diagnosis, the former president’s team noted that there is still hope in treatment. “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” the statement said.
Biden and his family are currently evaluating treatment options, which may include hormone therapy, chemotherapy, or other advanced care protocols.
