Coming Oct. 12: Solemn Assembly at DC National Mall

People across the U.S. and abroad are preparing to journey to the National Mall in Washington, D.C., for the “A Million Women” solemn assembly on Saturday, Oct. 12.

For those who are unable to unite in person, the prayer, fasting and repentance assembly will be livestreamed through amillionwomen.org and other social media platforms. Individuals and ministries are forming watch parties in homes and churches nationwide and globally.

Lou Engle, president of Lou Engle Ministries, says, “When there is no hope for a nation, when there is no remedy, God still has a holy prescription. Blow the trumpet in Zion, consecrate the assembly and call the fast! America is in a Joel 2 crisis.”

Engle, a visionary and co-organizer of the assembly, and other leaders are asking people to come in person, if at all possible, and to fast as they are able.

“There are times when the church must unite and gather, for breakthroughs where the Lord goes before us,” Engle says. “The time is so desperate that everyone must come, without respect to gender, race and denomination.”

“What a wonderful assignment to usher in the presence of God into the nation’s capital, appeal to the Lord for mercy on our nation, and share hope for our future,” says Kris Kubal, chief program officer of Intercessors for America.

“Intercessors from around the nation have been praying over the event, and many of our state leaders are holding prayer events in their capitals in support and intercession for this event.”

This is not a women-only prayer assembly. It is for all genders, denominations and ages. It is for anyone willing to unite, pray and believe as one body for God to save our nation.

The Oct. 12 solemn assembly will be held on the Day of Atonement “to fast and pray in unity as a last stand moment for America,” Engle says. He noted that the only day the Jews were commanded to fast was the highest holy day of them all—the Day of Atonement. They had to humble themselves to obtain a verdict of mercy on one day, rather than a verdict of judgement. On that day, the Lord would remove the iniquities of the land in a single day. Oct. 12 is that day—and let the church fast alongside the Jewish people for mercy for America.

The general prayer topics will include: return to our first love, behold the lamb, repentance, take the corporate posture of humility to repent together for national sin and guilt over various areas, reclaim/ revival, declare the authority of Jesus over our nation, reformation, take our place as women and mothers for the benefit of future generations, remember, gather as a nation around the table of Jesus and apply the blood of Jesus over the doorpost of our nation.

Engle, who also led “The Call” prayer, said, “There are certain times in crisis where God commands us to gather as it is in the book of Nehemiah: ‘When you hear the sound of the trumpet, there the Lord will fight for us.’” Quoting Charles Spurgeon, he added, “Our seasons of fasting and prayer at the tabernacle have been high days indeed; never has heaven’s gate stood wider; never have our hearts been nearer the central glory.”

Laura Allred, director of strategic partnerships and The Esther Company for A Million Women, says the objective was to “push back the powers of darkness over America in this hour.” She adds that the gathering will not be centered on personalities. “We believe there have been enough personality-driven events in the nation. The nature of this assembly is taken from Joel 2. It is a solemn assembly and as the nature of a solemn assembly, it is for consecration to happen.”

Allred says that even though nationally recognized leaders will be speaking cross-denominationally, AMW does not want people to come based upon who is there but to come instead in the spirit of humility and repentance.

IFA intercessors have been praying about these critical issues facing families in our nation for years, and IFA is pleased to stand with people of faith to be part of the Esther gathering in the nation’s capital.
