Do We Need to Save the Earth?

Do you believe that the planet needs to be saved and that immediate, severe action must be taken? Many people are convinced that the change in weather is primarily due to people’s use of what they refer to as “destructive sources of energy.” Is that true? Will the planet really be destroyed without taking drastic measures? It’s arrogant to suggest that God needs our help in saving His Earth. We can look to the Bible to settle this highly controversial issue. Scripture reveals 10 things on this topic. 1. God is the one who will burn up the earth with fervent heat (2 Pet. 3:10). This will not happen because of excessive population or man’s use of certain energy sources. Mankind’s sin is causing the Earth’s birth pains, including serious weather changes. Scripture clearly lists the sins that contribute to disasters and severe weather: — A shattered covenant (God commands us to obey His Word). — The shedding of innocent blood. — Idol worship. — Sexual sin. — No fear of God. In fact, our sin is directly connected to the Earth itself. Because we were made from the dust of the Earth, our sin has a direct effect upon the planet. It’s true God has given the Earth to man, but this is similar to a person who owns a house and then leases it to someone. God is still the owner, and He will sustain it. 2. God said the Earth remains forever. He will destroy it by fire in the end, but He will then restore it (Gen. 8:22; Eccl. 1:4; Psalms 46:6, 78:69, 119:90; 2 Pet. 3:10). 3. God created the Earth and formed it. It didn’t evolve over billions of years. Mother Nature does not govern Earth; it is Father God, who created it in six days (Ps. 90:2, 115:15, 134:3; Prov. 3:19; Isa. 45:18; Jer. 10:12).
