A True Jew for Jesus

The late Moishe Rosen was a pioneer in Jewish missions.

Today there are thousands of Jewish believers in Jesus, and many church leaders say Moishe Rosen is a big reason why. The founder of Jews for Jesus (JFJ) died May 19, at age 78, after a long battle with prostate cancer, but he leaves a ministry that has taken the gospel to Jews worldwide.

Founded in 1973, JFJ employs more than 200 missionaries in 11 nations and has distributed 50 million gospel tracts. But what’s more, perhaps, is that Rosen helped demystify a simple idea: that a Jewish person can believe in Jesus and retain his cultural heritage. That view brought the ministry a barrage of opposition.

But in a final interview with Charisma last year, Rosen said the rejection and hostility never bothered him. “I’ve always found that when I was doing God’s will, I was fighting the hardest,” he said. “The battles were always hard-fought, hard-won, and you had to hold on very hard. I usually knew that I was in God’s will because of the opposition.”
