He Speaks Again Through a Brain Chip—Is This a Miracle or a Warning?

Share:

In a remarkable display of modern technology, Brad Smith, a man with ALS and no ability to speak, has become the third person in the world—and the first non-verbal person—to receive a Neuralink brain implant. Through this brain-computer interface, he now controls a computer using only his thoughts and communicates using a voice cloned by artificial intelligence from recordings made before he lost his ability to speak.

In what is possibly the first ever video edited using a BCI, Smith’s breakthrough shows the promise of restoring communication for those suffering from severe physical limitations. Once confined to a dark room using an eye-tracking system that only worked in low light, he now interacts freely in varying environments—his voice restored, his presence renewed.

As conservative commentator, Michael Knowles, points out, there is both beauty and precaution to be seen with the use of this new technology.

The lines between humanity and machine are being blurred. Though Smith’s use of Neuralink restores what disease has taken, Knowles rightly warns: there is a vast difference between restoration and augmentation. The danger lies not in using technology to heal—but in using it to transcend our God-given design.

As AI and neural implants become more advanced, the world is being conditioned to accept deeper integration between humans and machines. Transhumanist voices dream of uploading consciousness, enhancing intelligence beyond natural capacity and even achieving a form of digital immortality. These are not just technical goals—they are theological ones. And they echo the ancient deception in the Garden: “You will be like God.”

The Bible warns that in the last days, knowledge will increase (Dan. 12:4), and humanity will pursue power apart from God. Technologies like Neuralink may pave the way for global control, deception and a system that can manipulate thought and identity itself. Revelation speaks of a time when no one can buy or sell without a mark—perhaps not just a symbol, but a technological system tied to the very mind and body.

Smith’s story is moving. But it’s also a trumpet blast for discernment. The church must be awake, watching and grounded in truth. We must celebrate healing and mercy—while resisting the counterfeit promises of a world seeking salvation through machines.
