Jordan Peterson, Russell Brand: ‘Trump is Not God’

In an age when political and corporate elites wield influence through fear and control, Elon Musk and Donald Trump offer a radically different approach—one that embraces spontaneity, playfulness and engagement. In an interview, Jordan Peterson and Russell Brand discussed this concept and how we’ve seen a shift in the way this new administration is taking on the issues of the American public.

The Playful Disruptors: Trump and Musk’s Unorthodox Influence

Throughout history, political leaders have applied their authority with solemnity, adhering to predictable rhetoric and rehearsed gestures.

Similarly, Musk engages the public with a mischievous spirit, using humor and provocation, particularly on social media, where he engages directly with critics in ways traditional leaders would never dare.

Yet this “play” is not merely entertainment; it is power. The unpredictability itself creates leverage, making opponents react rather than control the narrative. While some see this as a breath of fresh air, others wonder if such influence, when wielded without moral grounding, can turn into something darker.

“Regardless of the [individual], Trump’s not God, Musk’s not God, they’re all human beings,” Brand says. “Is there a point when order of magnitude alters essence? Is Musk not just a reiteration of Murdoch?”

The Spiritual Implications: Can Play Be Demonic?

Brand raises a critical question: “There isn’t mischief and playing in the demonic also?”

If play is a tool of power, could it be used for manipulation just as easily as for liberation? The Bible warns that deception can take many forms, often appearing as light (see 2 Cor. 11:14). Since digital interactions now shape reality, the line between innocent mischief and dangerous influence becomes increasingly blurred.

Consider the way Satan tempted Eve—not through brute force, but through a playful twisting of truth. Could modern leaders be utilizing the same method, dressing their motives in humor and casual irreverence? The spirit of play, when untethered from righteousness, can easily descend into chaos.

Discerning the Times

As Trump and Musk redefine leadership through unpredictability and play, we must remain vigilant. The question is not just whether Trump and Musk are wielding power differently, but whether we as believers are equipped to see beyond the surface and recognize the spiritual stakes involved. Now, more than ever, wisdom and discernment must guide us as we navigate the ever-changing tides of influence and control.
