Kash Patel Confirmed by Senate as Next FBI Director
The Senate confirmed Kash Patel as FBI Director in a 51-49 vote.
Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Susan Collins (R-ME) joined with Democrats to oppose Patel’s confirmation.
“While I strongly support efforts to ensure all federal employees perform their responsibilities ethically and in accordance with the law, Mr. Patel’s recent political profile undermines his ability to serve in the apolitical role of Director of the FBI. Therefore, I will vote against his nomination,” Collins said ahead of the vote.

Murkowski said she would oppose Patel due to his “own prior political activities and how they may influence his leadership. The FBI must be trusted as the federal agency that roots out crime and corruption, not focused on settling political scores. I have been disappointed that when he had the opportunity to push back on the administration’s decision to force the FBI to provide a list of agents involved in the January 6 investigations and prosecutions, he failed to do so.”
A key endorsement for Patel came from Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana (R), who had previously been undecided. After consulting with colleagues Cassidy stated, “The ones who worked closely with Kash vouched for him. I will vote for his confirmation.”
In nominating him for the role, President Donald Trump said Patel was a “brilliant lawyer, investigator, and ‘America First’ fighter who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending Justice, and protecting the American People. He played a pivotal role in uncovering the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, standing as an advocate for truth, accountability, and the Constitution.”
Patel has vowed to end the FBI’s targeting of Christians and do “everything” he can to identify those involved with Jeffrey Epstein.
