Kings’ children, Bernice, 62, and Martin III, 67, asked that the files be looked at “within their full historical context.” Before the documents were released to the public, the King family had the opportunity to review them first, CNN reported.
In a statement, the King siblings wrote: “As the children of Dr. King and Mrs. Coretta Scott King, his tragic death has been an intensely personal grief — a devastating loss for his wife, children, and the granddaughter he never met…We ask those who engage with the release of these files to do so with empathy, restraint and respect for our family’s continuing grief.”
In an op-ed with Fox News, Alveda King, the niece of Martin Luther King Jr., gave applause to the Trump administration for finally releasing these documents.
“Thanks to the leadership of President Donald J. Trump, along with Attorney General Pam Bondi and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, the American people are finally being given the truth,” King wrote.
