Her acting career spanned over the course of 40 years. She had roles in “Laverne and Shirley,” “Sam and Cat” and “American Graffiti.” In her autobiography “Shirley, I Jest: A Storied Life” she details her childhood and early connection to God.

The film opened in theaters nationwide on Jan. 26 and exceeded box office expectations, surpassing the $3 million mark, and maintaining top per screen averages each night, to finish seventh overall at the box office this weekend.
