The story behind Mica Miller’s recent death is a tragic one, and resulted in a life lost far too soon.

Amid the wave of theories, speculations and accusations levelled against her husband, Pastor John-Paul Miller of Solid Rock at Market Common in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Miller’s behavior can be described as erratic at best.

While the couple was in the process of separating, Mica Miller had filed for three “separate support and maintenance” requests within the last year. John-Paul still delivered a eulogy during a May 5 memorial service.

Authorities have determined Mica committed suicide with a handgun purchased the morning of her death.

During the eulogy, Miller admitted to trying to raise Mica from the dead.

“As Christians, of course we know she’s not here. [She’s] in heaven, worshipping and enjoying and probably hasn’t had time to look down here yet,” Miller said.

“But I’ve been down to the body about four times this week and each time it still didn’t hit me,” he continued. “I thought she was gonna wake up. I even tried to raise her from the dead one time this week.”

Many however doubt Miller’s sincerity of grief, as the couple had a troubled past, and before authorities determined Mica’s death as a suicide, believed John-Paul was directly responsible for the death.

However, records now show that Mica called law enforcement on the afternoon she died, or as some believe pushed to do amid her ongoing marital problems, so that they would know where to find her body.

“Tell me what happened,” says a dispatcher.

“I’m about to kill myself, and I just want my family to know where to find me,” Mica is heard responding to the dispatcher.

As reported by Fox News, “Robeson County Sheriff’s Office investigators also determined that John-Paul ‘and a female that he is allegedly romantically involved with’ were not in Robeson County at the time of Mica’s death.

“Investigators learned through interviews that John Paul Miller was at an athletic event in Charleston on the day of Mica Miller’s death. Miller’s vehicle was observed traveling on Hwy 17 Bypass, in Horry County at 2:22 p.m. on Apr. 27, 2024,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release. “The investigation confirmed that John Miller was accompanied while traveling to and from the event in Charleston, SC.”

By his own admission, John-Paul Miller had an addiction to prostitutes amid multiple other allegations by his first wife, and, as reported by News Nation, posted nude images of Mica online during their divorce proceedings.

In an affidavit sent to her attorney, Mica described being abused by John-Paul throughout their entire relationship.

“Since the day we became husband and wife, I have been abused in every way I can think of. Emotionally, sexually, spiritually, financially and physically. He has harassed me physically and electronically with letters, phone calls, emails and texts, hacking my emails, hacking my personal Facebook and impersonating me. Using my stolen phone to send texts and emails out to church members pretending to be me, texting friends and family saying that I am sleeping with teenagers from our church, and showing up in person at places around town … To having installed three different tracking devices on my vehicle.”

As tragic as Mica’s story is, this and others like it highlight the necessity for accountability of leadership within the church. The Bible is clear on the qualifications of ministry and the higher level of accountability those who teach will hold before God.

When those who lead in the church falter and fail, as we all do, it must no longer be swept under the rug but instead confronted and corrected according to the Word of God.
