Trump Forms New Religious Liberty Commission

President Donald Trump is once again putting faith front and center, announcing on the National Day of Prayer a sweeping new initiative aimed at protecting religious freedom in America.

During a Thursday Rose Garden ceremony, Trump addressed a crowd of faith leaders with bold words: “They said separation of church and state, they told me. I said, let’s forget about that for one time. We said, really? Separation? Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I’m not sure.” He continued, “But whether there’s separation or not, you guys are in the White House where you should be, and you’re representing our country. We’re bringing religion back to our country.”

As reported by The Daily Wire, Trump signed an executive order forming the Religious Liberty Commission, which will include clergy, legal experts, and close allies. Their task: identify threats to religious freedom, including attacks on churches and violations of the First Amendment, and recommend measures to protect people of faith.

At the event, Trump thanked White House Faith Office leader Paula White for her unwavering commitment to religious liberty. “Prayer is not a religious act, it’s a national necessity,” White declared, later praying that God would give Trump “wisdom beyond human understanding and capability, and … divine dreams.” She also called for “a spiritual reset in our nation, a return to what is right, a reverence for what is sacred, a real alignment with your divine purpose.”

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who will serve as vice chair of the commission, was in attendance, alongside former Housing Secretary Ben Carson. Patrick praised Trump, saying, “There’s never been a president who’s invoked the name of Jesus more than you.”

This commission follows Trump’s February order establishing the Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias, which aimed to combat what Trump described as an “egregious pattern of targeting peaceful Christians, while ignoring violent, anti-Christian offenses.”
