5 Things To Know From the State of the Union Address
What did you miss from the State of the Union address? Here are the five things you need to know.
1. The president discussed the assault on freedom and democracy overseas and here in America. He insinuated that Donald Trump and Republicans hid the truth about the events that took place on January 6. He also poked at Trump for not being a good sport about how the 2020 election turned out.
“Not since President Lincoln and the Civil War [has] our freedom and democracy been under assault as there are today,” Biden said.
2. Biden defended abortion and condemned the overturning of Roe v. Wade. He gave a forewarning to the Supreme Court justices that things could be changed by the power of the female vote.
“With all due respect, justices, women are not without electoral power,” Biden said. “Those bragging about overturning Roe v. Wade have no clue about the power of women.”

3.The president touched on border issues while digging at conservatives for their efforts. At the prompting of Marjorie Taylor Greene, Biden discussed the death of Laken Riley, whose arrested murder is an illegal immigrant.
“We can fight about fixing the border or we can fix it,” Biden said.
4. Biden discussed Israel and Gaza, saying that Israel needed to protect those living in Gaza, while mentioning Israel’s right to defend itself against Hamas, sending a mixed message.
“Israel has a right to go after Hamas,” Biden said. “Israel also has a fundamental responsibility, though, to protect innocent civilians in Gaza.”
5. Biden believes that old ideas will prevent America from moving forward.
“The issue facing our nation is not how old we are,” Biden said. “It’s how old are our ideas.” {eoa}
