Anonymous ‘Tipsforjesus’ Tipping Servers Thousands of Dollars

Though Christians have a reputation for being bad tippers, an anonymous believer with an Instagram account is turning the stereotype around.

The Instagram user @tipsforjesus posted his or her first evidence of a large tip on Sept. 8, with a photo of a receipt for an $87.98 bill at Bar Louie in Ann Arbor, Mich. The tip was $3,000, and the receipt was signed “@tipsforjesus.”

The account has continued to post photos of extravagant tips at restaurants in San Francisco, Chicago and Hollywood—from $500 to $10,000. The description on the profile, which has nearly 16,000 followers, says, “Doing the Lord’s work, one tip at a time.”

A server in Indiana claimed she had not received her $10,000 tip, but @tipsforjesus blamed it on the bar. The user posted a photo of a credit card statement showing two large bills at Legends of Notre Dame, writing, “Let’s be clear, the Legends of Notre Dame tips were processed by AMEX and paid. tipsforjesus pays it’s tabs. God bless!@notredame Your move.”

There is not much information about the anonymous tipper, though it appears he or she is a college football fan, as many of the receipts are in college towns on game days, and some have “Fight On!” written on them. Workers who have received the generous tips say the giver uses an American Express Centurion Card, also known as the Black Card.

The owner of the @tipsforjesus account is gaining national attention, with write-ups from Huffington Post, BuzzFeed, People magazine, New York Daily News and more. According to People, @tipsforjesus has handed out more than $54,000 to servers across the country.
