‘Behold Jesus’ Drama Outreach Changes Lives

Jesus calls the unlikely and unlovely to dine with Him. Spokane Dream Center has answered His call to set a banqueting table for their community. Luke 14:12-14 says, “Jesus also said to the man who had invited Him, ‘When you give a dinner or a supper, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, lest perhaps they also invite you in return, and so you are paid back. But when you give a banquet or a reception, invite the poor, the disabled, the lame and the blind. Then you will be blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied), because they have no way of repaying you, and you will be recompensed at the resurrection of the just (upright) ‘” (AMP).

About 18 years ago, pastor Alice Darroch, co-pastor with her husband, pastor Dave Darroch, at Spokane Dream Center in Spokane Valley, Wash., received a vision from God. While praying for a sermon topic, God gave Alice a movie in her mindseven scenes from the life of Jesus. She shared God’s vision the next day with the congregation but had no clue of its significance. Two years later, while reading Revelation 5, she heard the voice of the Holy Spirit say, “I want you to do a play.”

Alice responded, “A play? Lord, I don’t do plays. What can I do?”  The Holy Spirit continued, “I want you to do Revelation 5 and scenes 1 and 2 from what I showed you.”

She knew exactly what to do. This was the beginning of Behold Jesus, Spokane Dream Center’s Easter drama outreach to their community, which has spanned 16 years.

God had big plans. After seven years, the drama outgrew the church and then a second venue as well, as more scenes were added. Now at its current location, the INB Performing Arts Center, there are two performances along with live-streaming of the drama to a worldwide audience.

People travel from other states to attend. Testimonies of healing, salvation and the restoration of families and marriages are evidence of God’s hand at work. From across the United States, Africa, Europe and Asia, people around the world join us via the Internet, a testimony to the wonders of technology in the hands of Almighty God.

Spokane Dream Center is a congregation of about 200 members with a heart of compassion to reach their community. The cast of more than 150 includes almost the entire congregation, in addition to those who work behind the scenes. These are ordinary people—a cross section of society—lawyers, ex-drug addicts, students, nurses, homeless people, children, grandparents and business owners, all with one focus—to share the love of Jesus with a hurting world.

“I believe that it is in the heart of God for us to prepare a spiritual banquet—the best that we can possibly offer —and to go out into the highways and byways and compel them to come in. It is an invitation to come and feast on God’s goodness, to eat of the Bread of Life,” says Pastor Alice.

Behold Jesus portrays scenes from the life of Jesus, including His miracles, crucifixion, Resurrection and a glimpse of His ministry in heaven. The event is free—all are welcome at the feet of Jesus.

This year, interpreters will be available for the hearing impaired. The table is set and God brings those who need His healing touch. When the anointing of the Holy Spirit fills the theater, the ordinary becomes extraordinary. Changed lives—that’s what it’s all about.
