Body Cams Suggested as Accountability Measure for Teachers Promoting Left-Leaning Agendas

As critical race theory, appalling additions to sexual education and other radical teaching curriculums abound in American schools, parents face many obstacles in strategizing on how to best uphold Christian values in their children’s education. Teachers who choose to speak out in defense of their faith, and reject the progressive ideologies in favor of their conservative values, face retribution.

In the wake of COVID-19, as parents send their children back to in-person schooling after a year of at-home schooling, many are concerned with the reality their children will face—and are determined to do something about it.

Parents in Washoe County School District are proposing body cams be employed in the classroom to ensure accountability for the teachers who depart from the curriculum to push their own agenda. The proposition also applies to those teachers who must teach the concerning change in curriculum sweeping American schools.

“Every day we are told of another incident where a teacher is violating the privacy of a student or contradicting the lessons taught by parents at home,” says Karen England, executive director and founder of Nevada Family Alliance. “Creating a record that could be viewed by appropriate parties, if necessary, might be the best way to urge teachers to stick to traditional teaching.”

According to a Nevada Family Alliance press release, England has gained insight from her review of public school curriculum and by “requesting documents through open record requests under state versions of the federal Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).”

“It is astonishing the contempt some teachers have for parents. Districts are pushing radical politics in the classroom, contracting with Planned Parenthood and hiding curriculum from parents,” England says, regarding the push in school districts to radicalize children.

Though the press release contains no direct endorsement of the proposal, England wrote, “We expect that the teachers’ unions will reject this proposal immediately. But we should ask, what they have to hide? If police do a better job interacting with the public when they are wearing body cameras, how much more important is it for teachers to do the same?”

The idea of body cameras for teachers is not a new concept, though conversations regarding the issue may purportedly be on the rise in light of the events of 2020. The earlier conversations centered primarily around student and teacher safety.

An Iowa school implemented the procedure in 2015 following allegations that a middle school principal had kicked a student. The teacher was later exonerated.

Two U.K schools proposed the idea in 2017. As part of an experimental trial, the teachers would wear body cams to record interactions with disruptive students, where a “perceived threat to a member of staff or pupil” is in question.

“It’s not like a surveillance camera,” Tom Ellis, a criminal justice researcher, said.

This instance sparked debate, with research from RAND Europe and the University of Cambridge revealing the proposed classroom management technique may do more harm than good. {eoa}
