Christian Dream Center in LA Offers Free Meals to Families as Schools Close
As the threat of COVID-19 evolves, the needs continue to as well, and the Los Angeles Dream Center is responding to these needs while complying with all advice and regulations from the CDC, Gov. Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Eric Garcetti. Since schools are closed, throughout this week, the Dream Center will be open to provide meals for families from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm.
Mealtimes are not specified, and food will be served all throughout the time frame of 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. where anyone can show up at any time. The Dream Center also has a drive-thru option implemented. For those who are simply walking in, it is a pick-up-and-go system. There is no congregating on the Dream Center campus. The elderly and seniors 65-plus are finding it particularly necessary to practice social distancing, and so the LA Dream Center is also putting together care packages for the elderly this week, including a large load of hygiene and cleaning products and food to Parkview Senior Living Apartments located across the street from Angelus Temple, and also to the Dream Center’s existing outreach sites.
Additionally, the Dream Center is also accepting food donations to help during this crisis. Those looking to give financially can do so here. Although the Dream Center has been approached by a number of gracious people who are interested in volunteering, it does not have a need for volunteers at this time. The Dream Center is able to handle the needs at the moment with its staff, who are working with great care to ensure that all the precautions that have been advised are in place, including implementing social distancing as much as possible. The ways in which Los Angeles deals with this crisis changes on a daily basis, and the Dream Center is monitoring the news 24/7 and staying up to date with the latest regulations, adhering to everything health officials are advising.
The Dream Center greatly appreciates the overwhelming response it has received on social media from celebrities, influencers, corporations, other organizations and reporters who have helped to pass the word along about what is available to the families of Los Angeles.
“When there’s a need in our community, the Dream Center is laser-focused on whatever that need is,” said Dream Center co-founder Matthew Barnett. “We’re living in turbulent times, and we need to be able to adapt quickly and help those who need it most. Providing meals is just one small way we can lend a helping hand as Los Angeles grapples with this pandemic. We are praying faithfully and earnestly for the threat of COVID-19 to be eliminated and are so grateful for all those around us who have our health and safety in mind. God can still bless Los Angeles in this difficult time, and there’s no obstacle too large for us to overcome if we rally together and be a good neighbor to as many people as we possibly can!”
