Fathom Events is believing more than ever in Christmas miracles with the recent record-breaking success of “Christmas with the Chosen: The Messengers,” credited as the company’s “best selling and most highly attended event in its [Fathom] history.”

Besides bringing in $8 million in sales, after being released on 1,700 movie theaters nationwide, the Christmas film also set a record in selling $1.5 million in tickets in its first 12 hours of availability. So far, a total of 640,000 tickets have been sold, more than any other event for Fathom Events, and is only to be in theaters the first 10 days of December.

The film, chronicling the Nativity story through the eyes of Mary and Joseph, accompanies the wildly popular The CHOSEN TV series that depicts the life of Jesus Christ and His ministry.

“We don’t do this for the numbers, but these records indicate people will indeed go to the theater for a project they’re passionate about,” said CHOSEN creator, writer and director Dallas Jenkins. “The enthusiastic comments from new and old fans give us confidence to do this again.”

The CHOSEN series began as part of a viewer-supported, “Pay It Forward” campaign that went on to gross $40 million that funded not only the first season but the second and third season (of which the third season is currently in production).

What the creator, crew and cast have sought for most with the series, and now with the Christmas movie, is to authentically portray the story of Jesus for TV and movie audiences.

Michael Foust, a reporter for the Christian site Crosswalk.com, said to USA Today, “In 20 years of covering faith-based entertainment, I have never seen anything soar like ‘The Chosen.’ Watching ‘The Chosen’ is almost like being a fly on a Jerusalem street post, watching Jesus with his disciples. You really see Jesus’ humanity. That element is unique.”

Once “Christmas with the Chosen: The Messengers” concludes its run in theaters, it will be available on The CHOSEN app for free for no fee or subscription charge and is connected to other streaming services, as The CHOSEN series currently is as well. {eoa}
