Dinesh D’Souza Denies Allegations of Extramarital Affair

Dinesh D’Souza made a name for himself when the controversial 2016: Obama’s America became the second-highest grossing political documentary in history.

Now, a Christian magazine is stirring up controversy of a different kind, insinuating the married filmmaker is having an affair.

An article in World magazine alleges that The King’s College president and evangelical apologist slept in a hotel room with a woman who is not his wife. D’Souza filed for divorce from his wife of 20 years, Dixie, on Oct. 4.

D’Souza engaged Denise Odie Joseph II to be his second wife. The pair recently spent the night in a Charlotte, N.C., Comfort Suites hotel room, but D’Souza denies they slept in the same room together. World called it a “strange twist in D’Souza’s otherwise meteoric rise in the evangelical world.”

But D’Souza is speaking out.

“My wife, Dixie, and I have been separated for two years. Dixie approached me and demanded this [a separation] before I came to King’s College to become its president in late August 2010. I informed the chairman of the college about this at the time. I also informed the reporter who wrote the World article, Warren Smith, but he deliberately left it out of his piece, even though it is entirely relevant to the context,” D’Souza wrote in a Fox News column. “I met Denise three months ago. We are not and have not been having an affair. Nor did we share a hotel room in Charlotte.”

D’Souza said he and Joseph stayed in separate rooms. He called the allegations “pure libel” and suggested the story was worthy of a tabloid.

“It is also about how we Christians are supposed to behave with one another,” D’Souza said. “And the secular world is watching. Is this how we love and treat fellow believers? If my conduct was improper, wouldn’t it be the decent and charitable thing to approach me about it? Instead, here is a clear attempt to destroy my career and my ministry. This is viciousness masquerading as righteousness. And this is the behavior that is truly worthy of Christian condemnation.”

D’Souza resigned from King’s College on Thursday.
