Jerusalem Prayer Team Freed From Facebook Jail

The Jerusalem Prayer Team’s Facebook page was reactivated Friday after a three-month sentence in Facebook jail. The page was shut down following more than 2 million antisemitic comments posted to the page over a three-day period amidst the Gaza War late this past spring, JPT reports. Palestinian activists allegedly hacked the page by creating fake pages to report the original and get the prayer team shut down.

The prayer team’s 75 million members greeted the news with celebration.

“Our goal is to build Israel’s brand and to make friends of Zion by fundamentally educating Millennials and combating antisemitism,” New York Times bestselling author and JPT founder Mike Evans said in a news release.

The decision by Facebook to shut down the team’s page was the social media outlet’s attempt to contain attacks against Facebook by pro-Palestinian activists. These activists attempted to drive down Facebook’s user ratings to express their belief that the site constricts opinions and voices sympathetic to the Palestinian cause.

Punitive action against the hackers has not yet been reported.

The prayer team’s page uses Facebook Live to host millions of people for prayer. This was especially true in mid-May during conflict in the Gaza area. Evans said then, “There are even YouTube videos that people have made, giving instructions on how to attack our Facebook page and get us shut down!” {eoa}
