Mayor’s 3-Point Prayer Plea Goes Viral
A West Virginia mayor’s video plea for religious leaders to pray for his city is going viral.
Huntington Mayor Steve Williams sent a video out to church leaders, asking them to join together Sept. 7 at 11:05 a.m. to pray for their city.
“Join all the other churches, ministers, and congregations in the tri-state [area] for one day in one service, that we all lift our voices up for the healing in our community,” he said in the video.
Williams said drug addiction is taking the city down.
“I’ve come to understand and experience how powerful prayer can be, personally in my life and certainly what I’ve observed within my administration and how we’re going about doing business,” the mayor said.
He asked the churches to pray for three things:
1. Healing and recovery of those fighting substance abuse;
2. The protection of law enforcement as they protect the community during the drug war;
3. The drug dealers to be delivered from a life of crime.
