Middle Schooler Stands up to School District Tyranny

A seventh-grader at a middle school in the state of Massachusetts recently showed a courage rarely seen in today’s society.

Last month, Liam Morrison wore a t-shirt to John T. Nichols Jr. Middle School (NMS) in Middleborough that read “There are only two genders.” Morrison was promptly asked to remove the shirt and when he refused, his was removed from his gym class because people were complaining that it was “making them feel unsafe.”

He was scolded and his father had to come and pick him up after school officials told him to go home.

But Morrison wasn’t going to simply sit there and take it. He went in front of the MPS School board on April 13 and made his feelings known to district officials.

“Yes, words on a shirt made people feel unsafe,” Morrison told the MPS board. “They told me that I wasn’t in trouble, but it sure felt like I was. I was told that I would need to remove my shirt before I could return to class. When I nicely told them that I didn’t want to do that, they called my father.”

WPDE reported that Morrison said he was told by school staff that his shirt was “targeting a protected class.” Morrison had no idea of what that meant.

“Who is this protected class?” he asked. “Are their feelings more important than my rights?”

Cultural commentator Dr. Michael L. Brown says this episode is typical of what is happening in our society.

“This is the latest example of our descent into cultural chaos and moral insanity,” Brown told Charisma news. “This is why we have been shouting out for so many years about the trajectory of LGBTQ activism. We love the people and care for the people, but we reject the activists’ agenda.

“Of course, there are only two genders in the sense of sexes. Can you imagine the world that we live in where that is now in dispute? They say there’s male, female and an infinite number of categories? No wonder why so many young people are confused.”

Morrison said in his statement that he received no pushback from his classmates about the shirt.

“Several kids told me that they supported my actions and they wanted [a shirt] too,” he said. “I was told that the shirt was a disruption of learning. No one got up and stormed out of class, no one burst into tears. I’m sure I would have noticed that.”

Earlier this year Charisma News reported that in a Minneapolis Mall a man was told to take off a t-shirt that read, “Jesus Saves” or to leave the mall. Also in February, Charisma News reported that a group of Catholic School students touring the Smithsonian Institute were told to leave because they were wearing pro-life beanies.

The Smithsonian later apologized to the students.

Fox News Digital reported that the Massachusetts Family Institute (MFI), a non-partisan public policy organization, sent a demand letter Monday to NMS laying out how it violated Morrison’s First Amendment rights. Sam Whiting, a staff attorney for the organization and one of the lawyers representing the Morrison family, told Fox News Digital the action the school took is a ‘pretty plain case of censorship.'”

Brown lauded Morrison for his courage to address the school board in such a bold and brave manner.

“What this young man did was absolutely right. What the school did was absolutely wrong. The good news is that more and more Americans are saying that this is not right and this is not rational, and that we’re standing against it.”

Morrison also told the school board that he is broad-minded and doesn’t complain when he sees pride flags and diversity posters hung throughout the school.

“Do you know why?” he asked. “Because others have a right to their beliefs just as I do.”

Brown says this type of behavior is now the “norm.”

“We used to have absolute morality that became relative morality,” he said. “We used to have absolute truth, and then it became relative truth. Then we had absolute reality, now it’s become relative reality. The buck stops here, and people, like this kid, are rightly pushing back.” {eoa}
