Midterm Elections Are Clear Rejection of Obama’s Agenda

Last night’s elections were evidence that the American people are ready to have their values voiced on the issues that are pressing to the nation. And as President Obama noted recently that his policies were on the ballot, yesterday’s election results demonstrate how outraged Americans are at the direction in which President Obama has taken this nation.

“This was a resounding victory for social conservatives as well as political conservatives,” said AFA President Tim Wildmon. “For instance, the vast majority of the winners last night stand unapologetically for the sanctity of human life. Yesterday’s results were an affirmation that Americans want to send lawmakers to Washington who will stand up for their conservative values.

“Last night’s elections were also a vigorous rejection of President Obama and his left-wing agenda,” Wildmon continued. “Election Day was an affirmation that, contrary to what many think, we are a center-right nation. Through their vote, the American people have sent individuals to Washington to stand athwart Obama’s agenda and yell ‘stop.’ Last night was not the end; it was the beginning of what we will demand—the vigorous fight for our values. And now, we will expect our elected officials to deliver.”

Southern Evangelical Seminary President Dr. Richard Land released the following statement, saying last night’s elections were a repudiation of “Obamaism,” not a GOP mandate.

“Exit polling showed that somewhere between two-thirds and three-quarters of Americans are dissatisfied with the direction that the country is going and that they have blamed the party in power for that wrong direction,” he said. “What they have done is to give the GOP another opportunity to demonstrate that they can do better. It is up to the GOP to step up to the plate and perform.”

If Land were advising the Republican leadership, he said he would tell them to put legislation on the president’s desk every week, starting with passing the Keystone Pipeline and other measures to jump-start the economy, including significant tax reform.

“I would make it clear through legislation that the Republicans want to be the party of opportunity, not the party of dependency, and the party of Main Street, not Wall Street. I would also make it clear that if given the opportunity, the Republicans will be far better stewards of America’s national security,” Land said.

“On perhaps a more negative note, if I were the Republican leadership in the Senate, I would issue a statement that there will be no additional confirmation of judicial nominations by President Obama for the remainder of his term of office. The American people have clearly lost confidence in his leadership, and all open judgeships will remain vacant until the American people have the opportunity to express which direction they want the country to go in the next presidential election.”
