ORU Breaks Missions Record With Students in 5 Continents

Share:

Oral Roberts University sent more than 315 students on missions trips to 25 countries and five continents around the world this summer. It is the largest group of students to ever participate in ORU summer missions.

The students participated in community and engineering projects, medical clinics, education incentives and business consulting—all while spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Countries visited include the following: Belize, Benin, Bolivia, Brazil, Burkina Faso, China, Chile, Dominican Republic, Germany, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Italy, Japan, Malawi, Nepal, Paraguay, Philippines, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda and Zambia.

Team highlights include:

Brazil (Amazon)

Team Brazil traveled 16 hours by boat to participate in an ongoing project in the Amazon jungle known as Project Amazon (PAZ). The team worked to construct a church for villagers and spent time in the evenings building relationships, sharing personal testimonies and communicating the message of God’s hope.

Ghana (Medical)

Team Ghana medical served the community in Ghana with health and medical clinics. The team portrayed the love of God through medicine and prayed with thousands of patients during their stay.

Tanzania

Team Tanzania spread the gospel to unreached people groups in remote villages, deep in the African bush.  The team had the opportunity to minister through road construction and share the gospel with people who had never before heard of Jesus Christ.

Thailand (Education)

Team Thailand taught English classes at Santisuk English School using a Christian curriculum. In the classroom, they had opportunities to share about their walk with the Lord and develop close relationships with students ranging from college age to working professionals.

Zambia (Business)

Team Zambia business traveled to Lusaka, Zambia, and used business development strategies learned at ORU to connect and minister with local businessmen. The team partnered with local churches to run business conferences as well as entrepreneurship workshops.

Chancellor Oral Roberts, the founder of ORU, believed that the mission of this university was to bring healing not just to man’s physical body but also to the “totality of his needs.” In 1976, this purpose led to the creation of ORU Missions and Outreach, to do just that, to create opportunities for students to “bring healing to man in the totality of his needs” and to “show our Christian concern to humanity.”
