Pastor’s Daughter Killed in Tragic Summer Camp Accident
A 16-year-old was killed when she fell out of a swing and plummeted 100 feet.
Olivia Paige Grimes, daughter of a Florida pastor, was at a Young Life camp along the Carolinas border when she fell from the swing on Monday, The Orlando Sentinel reports.
The accident occurred at Carolina Point, a Young Life youth camp. The Sentinel reports she was participating in an event called “Freebird,” where she was attached to a large pendulum swing along with two other participants, according to local deputies.
Grimes’ home church, Oasis Community Church, released the following statement after her death: “It’s with deepest sorrow and broken hearts that we let you know that Olivia Grimes, the 16-year-old daughter of Pastor Phil and Robyn and sister of Sabrina, passed away on Monday after an accident at a summer camp. Due to the overwhelming nature of the circumstances, we are asking that you refrain from contacting Phil and Robyn at this time. Please keep them and the entire Grimes family in your prayers.”
Grimes would have been a high school junior, BayNews 9 reports.
“She was a very positive, fun girl to be around,” Lauren Barbato tells the station. Barbato is a teacher at Grimes’ high school. “She always made people laugh and she was always trying to help others. She was also very involved in school and had wonderful grades.”
Please keep the Grimes family in your prayers as they deal with this tragedy.
